Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/OFPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Historic Dodgertown Donovan is a scrappy 2B/OF prospect who knows the game and works hard. As a right-handed hitter, Donovan has an open stance with a centered balance. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and short stride. Donovan lets the ball travel and lands the barrel with an on-plane swing path. He produces consistent contact with the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Donovan is a contact type hitter who works his ABs. In the field, Donovan has effective pre-pitch actions and a quick first step. He presents his glove and moves with agile actions as he fields the ball in an athletic position. Donovan has soft hands and a clean exchange leading into a long arm action. He has a quick release throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot consistently showing strong throws across the diamond. Overall, Donovan has a high baseball IQ and the potential to advance his game to the next level.

11/05/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Tampa, FL Donovan is a 2B/RHP with a small, athletic build. Defensively at 2B, he takes a good prep step with efficient routes/angles to the GB. He fields the ball in an athletic fielding position and has a clean exchange to throw. On the hill, this RHP gathers over the rubber with a 3-pitch mix. He gets to a tall balance point, delivers with clean arm action and stays directional towards home plate. With the bat, Donovan displays an athletic setup with smooth rhythm to load. He rips his lower 1/2, swings on a direct path through the zone and consistently sprays pitches to all parts of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Quick footwork
2. Lateral range
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Pitching
1. Work downhill
2. Lower 1/2 drive off rubber
3. Deliver more strikes
Offense
1. Shorten up stride
2. Improve bat speed
3. More lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
