Official Scouting Report

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Dalton continues to show a bright future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, continuing to show as a switch hitter with outstanding hitting/power potential from both sides. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through an aggressive swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft/sure and he showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-69 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed but needs to develop more movement on the pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Dalton has a bright future and we look forward to seeing what the future holds.

10/11/2017 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Drake's ability to switch hit and glove it at 1st base showed well in Arizona. He is a strong (6'2"/195) athlete who has a solid all-around skill-set. With the bat, he can swing it from both sides of the plate with some pop. He has rhythm in his hands, with good separation on his load, getting into a strong launch position. He takes a hack and creates consistent/hard contact in every AB. At 1B, he shows his athleticism with his ability to move well around the bag to throws up and down the line. Hands are soft/sure as he has the ability to pick it. On the mound, this righty fires from a side-arm delivery which can make for an uncomfortable at bat. FB has movement as he pounds the zone with strikes. Changeup shows to be his best off-speed pitch as it has sink and he works to keep it down in the zone. He is a middle reliever type who can throw strikes and eat up some innings. Dalton is a talented 2-way prospect who possesses the tools that will play at the next level.

07/26/2017 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Drake continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter and has improved his abilities from the left side where he projects slightly better. Hands are quick (92 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. The baseball comes off his bat differently when centered. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 84 mph. He throws from a submarine arm slot. Fastball showed a range of 81-84 mph with arm side run/sink. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run/sink in the 74-76 mph range. Control is outstanding as well in attacking hitters and throwing strikes with all his pitches. Drake is a competitor with plus mental makeup as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

05/07/2017 - College PREP - College Station, TX Drake is a solid, athletic RHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he's a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. He displays well above average hitting abilities with outstanding power potential. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and utilizes his lower half well with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays smooth/clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is soft/sure and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally. On the mound, delivery is sound/repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 73-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Drake has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
