01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Drake has really developed as a player over the last several years, and was excellent on the mound at this year's UA Pre-Season All-America Tournament. The big lefty (6'3”/200), who is headed to Wichita State, showed an ability to fill up the strike zone with three quality offerings. His fastball sat comfortably in the mid 80s with late life as the ball seemed to get on hitters in a hurry. Drake's breaking ball had 2-plane break and flashed late bite showing the look of a potential out-pitch. He complements those two with a change that has some late action. He used his stuff effectively in his outing, striking out 7 in 3 innings and should be poised for a big spring. He has a “fresh arm” being from Wisconsin, meaning the arrow is still pointing up for Durham.

06/20/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Drake is a hard worker who made several improvements in his game during his time in Omaha. Foot speed has improved as he now runs a 7.07 60 yard dash. On the mound, he works quickly and keeps hitters off balance. FB gets on hitters quickly, ranging from 82-86 while showing some run. He attacks hitters and pounds the zone with strikes. Breaking ball and changeup are both effective as he can throw both in any count. He works downhill and drives off of the rubber. At 1B, Drake puts his athleticism on display working on the balls of his feet. He moves well around the bag and can get to inaccurate throws. With the bat, this LHH has a balanced setup with patience. He barrels the ball up consistently, hitting it where it's pitched and driving it to all parts of the field. Driving/engaging his strong lower 1/2 (avoid drifting) will help to increase pop off the barrel. Drake is a talented LHP who has a very bright future ahead of him.

10/26/2014 - College PREP - Stillwater (Minneapolis), MN Drake is a well built - 6'3/200 lbs - LHP/1B that will graduate in 2016. On the mound, he throws three pitches from the 3/4 arm slot with good arm action and front side extension. He tops out at 83 MPH with his FB, spins a 3-9 SL from 68-73 and mixes in a CH from 74-79. He gets himself to a good balance position and is deceptive with his size and delivery. Defensively, he moves efficiently with good body control to get in fielding position on time. He makes plays and throws with carry to his target. Getting lower to field and being more aggressive to come get will increase sure handedness and fielding percentage. Offensively, he has balance and barrel accuracy to make contact. He gets extended through contact and has the frame to hit for power when he uses more lower half. All in all - Durham is a promising player that has another two years to add consistency for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
