Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

07/29/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Drayton is a lean OF/RHP entering his final HS season. In the OF, he works to get behind the ball with efficient feet and controlled movements. He fields with sure hands and will see improvement by fielding it at its highest point and gaining distance on his crow hop. On the mound, Drayton gathers himself on the rubber with good rhythm and poise. He works ahead in the count, filling up the zone with a 2-pitch mix in the 70s. He throws with a strong lower 1/2 and will see more life on his FB when he stays in line with his target and gains physical strength. In the box, this RHH has excellent bat speed with a significant amount of pull side pop. He sees the ball deep into the zone with awareness of the zone. Staying through to the pitcher and quieting his stance will allow for a more relaxed, repeatable swing path. Overall, Drayton is a talented player that continues to show next level tools and improvement in each outing.

03/15/2015 - College PREP - Waco, TX Drayton is a strong 5'11/170 lbs OF/RHP that has consistent ability on the diamond. Defensively, he worked to get around the baseball with efficient feet and sound body control. He worked his glove in front and was sure to field. He worked through the baseball to gain momentum and throw through the cut. Offensively, he is a contact type hitter that works with good balance and activated hands. He needs to find a more consistent pace through his swing in order to frequently hit with pop - eliminating rush. On the mound, he threw his cut fastball from 75-77, spun an 11/5 CB from 66-68, and showed a CH from 70-71. He was mechanically sound, got to a good balance point and delivered with loose/clean arm action. He finished with his chest over his front knee and had good overall feel to pitch. All in all - Drayton is a promising athlete with present tools and fundamentals that will play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
