06/05/2018 - 2018 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South Drew is a prospect on the mound and with the makings of a special type player at the next level. On the bump, he had a solid showing at the event. He attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo. Fastball showed range of 83-85 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with late break. Slider is harder with tight spin and late / sharp break. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Command / control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and locates to both sides of the plate.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Drew continues to show as an upside on the bump. This lefty has a 4 pitch arsenal in which to keep hitters guessing. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 84 mph. FB jumps out of his hand and shows with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Slider displays 1/7 shape with tight / short break. He works tall and drives downhill, repeating well. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches.

08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Drew once again showed well on the mound and continues to get better. He has good stuff coming in from the left side, a smooth delivery, and sharp off-speed. Drew works on a downhill plane, has a strong front side, and works in good tempo. In the OF, Drew has smooth actions, tracks well, and works behind the ball quickly. He gets a good crow hop toward his target and throws with accuracy and consistency. At the plate, Drew tracks well, swings fluidly, and gets nice extension to and through the baseball. He is direct to the ball and can spray to all fields. Drew has the tools to be a nice LHP or 2-way player at the next level.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Drew is a left handed pitcher who has the potential to become a front line starter along with the ability to contribute as an outfielder. He shows advanced feel on the mound with the ability to change speeds and sequence pitches to keep hitters off balance, while doing the little things well like holding runners and picking at first. He has great presence on the mound with a FB/CB/CH mix with each pitch showing good movement and the ability to throw all for strikes. He takes efficient routes in the outfield, going back on the ball very well to make plays over his head. He plays through the ball and has a clean exchange and release to throw accurately to his target. He is a contact hitter with a quiet setup and no wasted movement at the plate. He works on a level path to the ball and shows the ability to spray base hits to all fields. Drew looks like an impact player for the next level.

10/02/2016 - College PREP - Palo Alto (San Jose), CA Drew is an athletic lefty/lefty 2-way player, who showed very well in the outfield, at the plate and on the mound. At the plate, he started in a crouched stance, taking a quick/short stride to the pitcher with loaded hands and explodes his lower 1/2 to the pitcher. He showed the ability to consistently spray line drives to all fields. In the outfield, he took efficient angles to the ball, working under/through ground balls and fly balls, then got himself into a position to make accurate throws. On the mound, this lefty showed 4 pitches from a 3/4 arm angle, featuring a low to mid 70's fastball, a mid-60's curveball which projects as a true out pitch, a changeup and a cutter. Utilizing his lower 1/2 more, by bending his back leg and driving it off the pitching rubber with it will result in easier velocity. Only a 2020 graduate, Drew is an impressive young prospect who has a very bright future in this game.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Drew is a hard worker who showed very well during his time at the Winter Classic. His is a coachable player who has a willingness to improve. With the bat, this lefty has an athletic setup with good balance. Barrel delivery is quick through a level path as he drives the ball on a line. Shortening his stride and engaging more of his lower 1/2 will help to increase power at the plate. In the OF, Drew has active footwork and tracks down fly-balls with speed. He secures the ball with 2-hands, gathers well and makes strong/accurate throws into his target. On the mound, this LHP continues to pound the zone with strikes. Delivery is smooth with a loose/free arm action and on-time separation. He commands all 3 pitches and can hit his spots well. FB now tops out at 69 mph while showing good sink. Changeup compliments his FB well as he works to keep it down in the zone. He controls the running game by mixing his delivery times and varying his looks. Dowd is a well rounded athlete who has a bright future ahed of him.

09/06/2015 - Interactive Video Program - San Francisco, CA Drew is a young L/L 2-way player as a LHP/OF. On the mound, this lefty has a 4-pitch arsenal coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point and has smooth separation. He drives off the rubber with his lower 1/2 and stays directional toward the dish. Breaking ball has 2/8 shape with late action. He remains compact throughout his delivery and repeats well. In the OF, Drew shows active footwork with a quick first step. He takes good routes/angles to track down fly-balls to his right and left. He works behind the ball, plays through it well and makes accurate throws into his target. With the bat, this LHH has a slight open setup with good balance. He whips the barrel on a level path and connects with pop. He hits the ball where it's pitched with the ability to spray it to all parts of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Finish with extension
3. Glove side lead
Defense
1. Routes/Angles
2. Gain more ground (crow-hop)
Offense
1. Extension through contact
2. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
