Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

10/09/2011 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Drew is a thin, athletic 2nd baseman / RHP who will graduate in 2013. Defensively, Drew has soft / sure hands, quick / fluid feet, and he moves with good agility to the baseball. He presents his glove well, he has life in his feet, and he fields in an athletic position. Drew has a clean exchange, and he throws with a loose arm action with accuracy to his target. Defensive abilities can get better if Drew can field more from the right, keep his feet moving, and add arm strength. On the mound, Drew has a short / loose arm action, he works to his balance point well, and his delivery is compact. He works in good rhythm, he keeps his shoulders level, and he finishes in a complete position. Drew fills the zone with strikes and his CH shows to be his best pitch. Abilities on the mound can improve if Drew can lengthen and strengthen his arm and sharpen his CB. At the plate, Drew has an athletic set-up, a short / square stride, and good balance. He tracks the ball well, he makes square contact, and he can spray to all fields. Added strength and staying short to the ball should help hitting numbers rise. Each time we have seen him, he has shown some improvements--this time around, his improvements on the mound really stood out.

09/17/2011 - Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Commuter) Drew has great bat control and a good over all feel for the swing. This allows him to keep a consistent swing and bat plane, allowing him to hit the ball at any point in the hitting zone and to all fields. But occasionally has the tendency to let his chest come forward during the swing causing his bat plane to be down hill at times.

08/05/2010 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2010 Love continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and showed on the mound for the first time as well. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.44 runner. Feet are active in his defensive play, flashing big play potential with defensive grades improving. Offensively is where Drew has improved the most through a balanced approach. Swing path is short and level, flashing bat speed as he shows solid barrel accuracy. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 69-74 mph with near average changeup. Currently, he projects best at 2B for the next level.

05/16/2010 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Drew is a small, young, 2nd baseman that will graduate in 2013. Defensively, Drew is aggressive to the ball and shows decent range. He makes plays on balls hit his way and he follows his throws to his target. Normal growth and maturity, along with added arm strength will only help Drew improve as he gets older. Offensively, Drew has good balance and he tracks the baseball well. He keeps his hands inside the baseball, has a level swing, and has pretty good barrel accuracy for his age. Hitting can improve if Drew can close off his swing and tap into his lower 1/2 more.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
