Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

05/08/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Tampa, FL Drew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a bright future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 80-84 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with downward break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target through an aggressive approach. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and he has tremendous strength in his swing with baseball exploding off bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. With 2 years to further develop, Drew has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches, possibly as a two-way guy.

11/01/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Tampa, FL Drew is a talented 2-way player who continues to progress on the diamond. On the mound, this crafty RHP has an effective 3-pitch mix to challenge hitters with. FB now ranges from 79-81 mph as he works it to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with good action. Following through with more extension on his finish will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. In the OF, Drew takes a quick first step and moves lightly on the balls of his feet to track down fly-balls hit to his right and left. He gathers well and gains ground toward his target. Offensively, Drew has a balanced/athletic setup with patience. Barrel delivery is quick as he likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and pulls it with pop (exit velocity = 84 mph). A 2018 grad - Spencer has a solid toolset with a lot of upside.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic Drew is an athletic 3B who also pitches. In the infield he has quick feet, soft hands, and a strong fielding position. He is aggressive to the ball and has excellent body control. His throws are accurate across the diamond and they show good life / carry. On the mound Drew gets good extension and uses his lower half well. His balance is strong and he shows his athleticism when pitching. His fastball has late arm side run and his curve has an 11/5 shape with good depth. Offensively Drew has a strong load, uses his lower half well, and delivers the barrel with good accuracy. His hands are quick and he made solid contact during games. Drew has a lot of potential both in the field and on the mound and should continue to improve his game with his work ethic and athletic ability.

11/03/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Tampa, FL Drew is an athletic player who can play 3 position. On the mound, Drew has a long / free arm action, he has good balance, and he repeats his delivery well. His FB touches 75 MPH, he mixes his pitches well, and he shows good control. At 3B, Drew has a controlled approach, playable hands, and he throws with a free arm action to his target. In the OF, Drew takes good angles to the ball, he works behind it well, and he gets in a good throwing position to deliver the ball with accuracy to his target. Offensively, Drew has an upright stance, he keeps his hands back, and he shows some pop in his bat. He hits hard to the pull side, and he finishes his swing completely. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
