07/11/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One South Weed showed in the OF plus on the mound for the first time at the event. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level where he has improved his baseball abilities and shows the makings of a special type player at the next level. Defensive grade has improved, now showing superior abilities. Feet are quick and athletic as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls, covering a lot of ground. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with life, accuracy, and on line carry across the diamond, displaying pro level arm strength. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. He gets to a strong launch position and attacks the ball with hands. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Power is best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 81-84 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength, develops better off speed pitches and work to through more strikes.

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Drew showed to fit the mold of a CF with a contact approach at the Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament presented by Baseball Factory. In the outfield, he takes good angles and is controlled in his approach. He has a soft/sure glove and a quick release. Offensively, he hits with good balance and bat speed while utilizing his hand and hip coordination. He gets to a strong hitting position and showed pull pop. In all - Drew is a promising prospect that shows his athleticism and ability time and time again.

12/01/2013 - National Tryout - Pensacola, FL Weed improved his arm strength as indicated by his top velocity of 89 mph and displays life, accuracy, and on line carry to his throws as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in tracking down balls and displays plus range in the OF. At the plate, he shows strength in his swing through an aggressive approach with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Hands work to stay inside, utilizing all fields.

10/13/2013 - National Tryout - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Drew continues to shine on the diamond. This OF tracks balls down with his (7.00 60 yard dash). He has a quick release and makes strong throws toward his target. Runners will not want to test him arm. At the plate, he has quick hands and delivers the barrel to and through the zone. He drives the ball and uses the whole field. Drew will have success on the diamond this upcoming season.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Weed continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now showing outstanding hitting abilities with solid average power through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. At event, he was 2 for 8 with 2 3B. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind, playing through well with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate with life and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly, displaying an outstanding arm. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate, works hard and is very coachable.

04/07/2013 - National Tryout - Tallahassee, FL Drew continues to show strong abilities in his game. This athletic OF can cover some ground thanks to his speed. He has a strong arm and smooth arm action which allows him to make accurate throws with carry to his target. As a hitter, Weed displays good balance and smooth rhythm, getting himself into a solid load position. He hits the ball where it's pitched and uses the whole field. Drew has an all-around solid skill set and will only continue to improve as he is only a 2015 graduate.

02/03/2013 - College PREP - Mobile, AL Drew is a lanky, athletic SS that will graduate in 2015. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.0 60 time. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he works to get behind balls well and plays through with momentum to his target. Reads off the bat are solid and he moves well laterally, displaying range in the OF. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with baseball exploding out of his hand. Throws display life, accuracy, and on line carry to his target as he stays behind the ball well. At the plate, Weed shows an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Drew has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
