Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

07/14/2008 - College PREP - Cedar Hill (DFW), TX Dustin continues to show improvement in his game. He has improved foot speed, fielding ability, hitting and raw power grades. On the mound, he displayed a qualilty slider and needs to dump the curve ball. Command was not up to par and needs to continue to work on control and command to pitch at the next level. Dustin will catch the eyes of the college coaches with his abilities in the middle of the infield and at the plate.

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Armor showed as a talented defensive infielder, with excellent body control and soft hands. His offensive approach was solid as well, he did a good job of tracking pitches and seemed to grasp the concept of making contact deep in the zone. Has room to improve his physical hitting skills, bat speed and strength is wrists and forearms can improve. He can also work to shorten up his stroke a bit, tended to have some sweep and length. On the mound, he improved his top end fastball one mph up to 81. His breaking ball had tight spin and some late action at times. Was able to pitch with his fastball and curve. Can work to improve his front shoulder and glove side action, must stay closed longer. Overall, a solid player with some two-way potential.

12/27/2007 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2007 The longer look and game situations during this event allowed his ability to play the game and his overall approach to getting better to show through. He proved to be a "baseball player" with excellent instincts and a "gamer" type approach. He also showed improved physical skills, most notably with a 60-yard dash that improved nearly a half a second down to 7.40. His arm strength and fielding ability also showed better than when we saw him last, and he showed good rhythm and tempo on the mound to go with a fastball between 76-80 and the makings of a quality breaking pitch. At the plate, he showed a short stroke with the ability to use the whole field. Can work to further improve his rhythm and timing, along with his overall strength and use of his lower half.

07/18/2007 - College PREP - Irving, TX Dustin is a tall, lean SS with a strong arm. At SS, shows good range despite 60-time and plays through the ball. Arm action is above average. Tends to stab at the ball which effects transfer. Keeping hands soft will allow transfer to become quicker. At the plate has a quiet bat and tacks the ball well. Needs to work on finishing the swing to produce greater carry on the pitch. Overall, Dustin still has another two years to get stronger.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
