12/27/2011 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic - 2011 This week in Arizona, Acosta displayed the ability to create good angles and good follow thru on his throws from the outfield. He needs to keep his front side closed longer when making his throws. At the plate, he has a square setup and creates good hip action on his move to the ball. His abilities at the plate should continue to improve as he learns to stay tall and get extended through the zone. On the mound, he has a long arm action, stays under control with his body, and showed the abilities ability to make mid-inning adjustments. His tools on the mound will continue to improve as he keeps his front side closed. With one more season of high school baseball remaining, Acosta has the opportunity to showcase his skills and continue to prepare for the next level.

08/10/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 2 Dylan is a two-way player in the OF and on the mound that will graduate in 2012. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.29 60 time. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works in getting behind to play through with his momentum to his target. He needs to be more aggressive in attacking and playing through ground balls. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength, plus raising velocities. Offensively, Acosta shows a balanced approach and has a strong recognition of the strike zone. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Swing path is level with power numbers improving as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the zone. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-78 mph with breaking ball displaying 11/5 shape but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. Dylan has potential with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
