07/10/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National East Carnes went out as an OF/RHP in his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. In the OF, he displays proper routes/angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind in playing through with momentum to his target. He reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his quick/athletic feet well in covering a lot of ground, displaying range. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a direct/level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. The baseball explodes off the bat when centered. On the mound, he attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo and polished delivery. Arm action is loose and quick, working well to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 77-78 mph. Changeup is best off speed pitch, showing a feel for with late depth and plus action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. Dylan will get looks from the top collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Carnes is a hard worker who continues to improve. On the mound, this RHP remains compact throughout his delivery not wasting movement. He has good front-side lead and works in-line toward the dish. FB now cracks the mitt at 82 mph while showing run. He pounds the zone and isn't afraid to work the ball on the inner part of the plate. In the OF, Dylan takes solid routes and works into position behind the ball. He secures the ball with soft hands and gains ground toward his target. Offensively, Dylan has a balanced approach with patience as he waits for his pitch. Swing path is level as he connects and creates good backspin, driving the ball to all parts of the field. Only a 2017 grad - this talented 2-way player has a bright future in the game.

06/17/2014 - USA Baseball 17U Championships Carnes has an outstanding tournament and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He showed in the OF and on the mound but continues to project best in the OF where he has outstanding athletic abilities. Defensive grades have improved, now showing as outstanding tools. He utilizes his excellent foot speed to track down balls, displaying range as he covers a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together through the catch / throw process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly and hosed a base runner at the plate. At the plate, power grade has improved as he displays strength in his swing through an aggressive approach and athletic setup. He made adjustments and shows quick hands that generate bat speed but needs to work to stay on top of ball more, leveling out swing. Base running is a plus as he is a smart / aggressive runner that will take the extra base. Offensive stock will continue to rise as he develops a better short (bunting) game. On the mound, he showed his best velocity to date, topping out at 78 mph. He is a smart pitcher, working to get ahead and keeps hitters off balance as he changes speeds well. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, willing to make adjustments, and works hard to be the best player he can be. He has a high ceiling and the makings of a special type player at the next level.

02/02/2014 - College PREP - Houston, TX Dylan is a lean, athletic OF/RHP that will graduate in 2017. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level but has upside on the mound. At the plate is where he shows best displaying well above average hitting and power grades through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a short/direct/level swing path and creates extension through the ball. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. Foot speed is superior as indicated by his 6.78 60 time. Defensive abilities in the OF are solid, displaying smooth/clean actions. He utilizes his quick/athletic feet well in taking proper routes/angles to track balls down. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through well, and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. Throws are accurate, flashing carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly, but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. With 3 years to further develop, Dylan has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the top collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
