03/19/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Greenville, SC Dylan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential through a squared / balance setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to get his stride foot down sooner to work on time. At SS, he has improved his defensive abilities. Feet are active as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Glove action is clean / firm and he presents well out front. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He will benefit by working to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program.

03/20/2016 - National Tryout - Greenville, SC Dylan continues to work hard and progress on the diamond. At SS, he shows quick footwork as he moves fluidly around the GB from right to left. He has soft hands, funnels smoothly and works in-line toward his target at 1B. Offensively, Dylan has a balanced/athletic setup as he waits for his pitch. He has quick hands, connects with strength and drives the ball to all parts of the field. Only a 2021 grad - Koontz has a bight future ahead of him as he will only continue to physically mature and get stronger.

06/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series Dylan is a talented player who shows his love for the game in the way he plays. Defensively, this MIF has smooth actions and quick feet as he works around the GB. He presents his glove and fields the ball out in front. He has a clean transfer/exchange and plays through toward his target. Continuing to develop his lateral footwork will help to increase range. With the bat, this lefty stands in with athletic actions with rhythm in his hands. Dylan delivers the barrel with speed to and through the zone on a level path as he squares the ball up and hits line-drives. He works the count and has good zone awareness, proven by his 4 BB's. Koontz can also get on the mound and throw strikes. FB ranges from 55-59 mph as he works it to both sides of the plate. He works to keep the ball down in the zone and get roundball outs. More lower 1/2 drive off the rubber and getting on a long toss program to strengthen his arm will both help to increase velocity on his FB. Koontz is a gamer who brings his all to the field. He is very coachable and has a bright future ahead of him.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
