06/12/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Dylan has improved his baseball abilities and shows a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most, showing as a LHH. Hands are quick and work through a direct / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered, displaying gap to gap power. In the OF, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active and aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles. He works to get behind the ball and plays through with momentum to his target. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound.

10/12/2014 - National Tryout - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Powell continues to show as a LHP/OF but currently projects best in the OF for next level where he has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed his improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.48 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities are now well above average, displaying clean / smooth actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Throws display life, carry, and accuracy through his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time and work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break He maintains arm speed arm speed on changeup with arm side run and shows potential as being a quality pitch. Stock on mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and throws more strikes.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Pirate City Dylan is a L/L OF/LHP that will graduate in 2017. Defensively, he showed good pre-pitch footwork, good body control and good footwork that allowed for direct routes to field. He did a nice job reading fly balls and will continue to improve his defense when he gets stronger and gets more reps. Offensively, he is direct with the barrel and has good hand/hip coordination. He tracks well and is a spray type hitter. On the bump, the southpaw threw three pitches - topping out at a new high of 72 MPH and throwing two breaking balls to keep hitters off balance. Overall Powell has a workman type attitude that got after it day in and day out, showing improvements over the course of the event.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
