03/27/2011 - College PREP - Providence, RI Dylan is a tall, solid and athletic catcher that will graduate this year. He has good life in his body defensively with a strong arm. He shows good movement laterally when blocking and is quiet when receiving. He is a bit narrow with his stance which creates a high target to the pitcher. A wider base and more flexibility in his hips will help to improve this. He had pop times ranging from 2.17 to 2.30 and these will improve with a cleaner exchange and better follow through on his throws. At the plate he is square to the plate with a decent load and short stride. He gets through the ball well with his lower half and shows some bat speed. He is a bit stiff in his pre-pitch rhythm and was late at times getting his front foot down causing inconsistent contact. Dylan is a strong kid and has raw but solid tools to help out at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
