Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Earl is a coachable OF/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. In the field, Earl shows efficient footwork and gets into an athletic position. He fields the ball out in front of his body and makes a clean exchange. He gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with good carry through his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Earl improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a controlled stride. He gets into a small load and remains centered with his lower half. He takes a smooth swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent contact and gap to gap pop. Earl can improve as a hitter by consistently staying through the ball. On the mound, Earl starts with a simple rock step and gathers to a balance point over the rubber. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing square to his target. Earl shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph. Changeup sits at 71mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Earl can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. With two more years to develop, Earl has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

10/21/2018 - College PREP - Potomac, MD Earl is a strong, athletic OF/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 60 time of 7.31. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting abilities through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel, flashing gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-75 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 3 years to further develop, Earl has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
