Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 Ed worked out behind the plate and threw some on the mound during his time in Pirate City.  He blocks and receives the ball well, he has a good set-up, and he looks it into his glove.  Ed has a clean exchange, and throws with a short arm action with good strength and pop times as low as 2.14.  On the mound, Ed has a deceptive delivery, a side arm action, and his FB has good arm side run.  Offensively, Ed has a square set-up, some strength in his swing, and good bat speed.  He tracks the ball well, makes contact, and has some pull side pop.

09/25/2011 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Eddie lowered his pop times and improved his blocking during his last workout in Pittsburgh. He has sure hands, active feet, and good balance. Eddie sits low, blocks well, and he keeps the ball in front. He has a clean exchange, and he throws with a quick arm action on a downhill plane to 2nd base. A little wider base and not stabbing at the ball can help receiving grades rise. Offensively, Eddie has life in his hands, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes contact, he swings in good rhythm, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Hitting can improve with a less violent, more level swing.

12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Dutkewycz showed similar abilities that we had previously seen in Pittsburgh, PA. Currently, he projects best behind the plate for the next level. Arm strength continues to show as a plus with life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. He will benefit by staying on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength plus raising velocities. Pop times will continue to improve as he masters proper footwork to throw and quickens his transfer/exchange. Offensively, Ed shows a balanced approach direct hands that attack the baseball. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed as he takes a hack. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. On the mound, fastball topped out at 77 mph with occasional run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with ok depth.

09/26/2010 - College PREP - McKees Rocks, PA Ed showed improvements in his game during his last workout in Pittsburgh. He improved his arm and receiving grades both from 40's to 45's. Behind the plate, Ed has a low stance, he presents his glove well, and he keeps his eyes to the ball. He his some life in his feet when blocking and recovers quickly. Ed squares his body well to his target, has a decent exchange, and throws accurately with solid carry to his target. Catching abilities can further improve if Ed can widen his base, quicken his exchange, and not stand straight up when throwing. Offensively, Ed has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He squares the ball up well on the barrel, has a good load, and he hits hard to the pull side. Hitting grades can get better if Ed can level off his swing and work the ball to all fields.

05/16/2010 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Edward is a stocky, young Catcher that will graduate in 2012. Behind the plate, Edward looks the ball in, holds a low target, and works around the ball. He centers the ball well on his chest when blocking, takes okay angles, and covers the "5" hole. Edward has a clean exchange from glove to hand, and good direction toward his target when throwing. Looser overall actions, added arm strength and improved accuracy will help Edward's overall defensive abilities improve. At the plate, Edward has good balance and bat speed. He has an average load, he can work the ball to all fields, and makes okay use of his lower 1/2. Edward has some pop in his bat, and with a more narrow stance, better barrel accuracy, and a finished swing, offensive grades can improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
