01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Edward is a long, two-way player who can impact the game in many ways. He shows active prep at short to get a good base and use efficient footwork to the ball. Hands are clean to field out front and funnel to make accurate feeds and throws. Approach is sound at the dish with a level path to the ball. He delivers the barrel consistently to make solid contact to all fields. On the mound, he shows a deceptive delivery and slot to keep hitters off balance. His repertoire includes a fastball with cut action into the 70's and an 11-5 shaped curveball. Edward does a lot of good things on the field to help his team.

10/25/2017 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Edward is a talented player who has really shown improvements since we last saw him. He has matured and in turn gotten much more athletic, to the tune of a 60 yard dash time .4 seconds lower than his previous best (7.05 seconds). He has also gotten stronger which has translated to better power and he now shows extra base ability with a strong lower half and strong wrists. He is balanced throughout his swing with a short path and good rotation to make consistent, line drive contact to all fields with pull side pop. At short, he has a quick first step to show range and he works around the ball to play through to his target. His hands are clean and quick as he is athletic to field and turn the DP. On the bump, this tall right hander uses his athleticism to repeat his mechanically sound delivery and work ahead in the count. He features a fastball up to 80mph with a tight 11-5 curve and a deceptive changeup. Edward is a role model on the field, along with the tools to be a complete ballplayer.

06/11/2017 - College PREP - Bakersfield, CA Edward is an athletic, lean built SS/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill set and talent on both sides of the ball. In the field, Edward plays with good pre-pitch action and effective footwork taking the correct angles to move well in each direction laterally. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a low position with a clean exchange. Edward plays with good momentum through the baseball and has loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate with good strength across the diamond. Offensively, Edward has a open setup with his weight in the back of his stance. He takes a good load and closed stride. He has a direct swing path and uses his lower half throughout his swing. Edward is a line drive type hitter who lands the barrel to the baseball regularly. On the mound, Edward has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick, clean arm action and extends through his release as he stays square to home plate with a controlled landing. He does a nice job rotating with his core as he finishes to his target. Edward has good sink action on is fastball at 76-79 MPH. He also features a deceptive changeup with tail and sharp breaking curveball. Overall, Edward plays the game athletically with a talented skill set and has good upside to make an impact at the next level.

07/14/2015 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Walden is a 5'8/125 lbs 2018 that plays short and pitches. Defensively, he had smooth/easy actions to make plays with a soft glove and threw with ease across the diamond. He was fluid with his double play feeds and had efficient feet to get him in position to secure the ball. Offensively, he tracked the ball to contact, maintained his posture through the swing, and delivered the barrel on a level path with hip action. More drive and more hand involvement to boost bat speed through the zone will increase pop to all fields. On the bump, he threw his FB from 70-72, spun an 11/5 CB from 54-57, and repeated his actions. He wasn't afraid to challenge hitters on the inner off and rotated to the target to finish. All in all - Edward needs to add strength and quickness to his game to keep up and gain an advantage as the competition also improves.

09/14/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Fresno, CA Edward is a 2-way player (SS/RHP) who excels on the mound. This RHP has an effective 3-pitch mix (FB, CB & CH) from a high 3/4 arm slot. He maintains good arm speed on all 3 pitches, keeping hitters off balance. FB shows some arm-side run as he keeps it down in the zone. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with sharp/late break. Changeup has arm-side run the will get in on the RHH. At SS, Edward works into a square fielding position with his glove out in front. He plays through the ball smoothly and makes accurate throws to 1B. With the bat, this RHH displays a square setup with patience. He gets good hand separation working back into a loaded position. He hits the ball where it's pitched and has the ability to drive it the other way. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. CB release point
2. Glove-side lead
Defense
1. DP exchange
2. Backhand play
Offense
1. Loosen actions
2. Drive lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
