Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

07/12/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Jose, CA Elijah is an athletic/talented L/L who can swing it. At the plate, he has an athletic setup with fluid rhythm to load. He takes a hack whipping the barrel with + speed and connects with pop. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it to all parts of the field. At 1B, he hustles into position behind the GB and picks out the hops. He has good bag awareness and can adjust to throws up and down the line. On the mound, this LHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He maintains good tempo and repeats his delivery well. He works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and stays directional. FB ranges from 75-77 mph while showing good arm-side run. Breaking ball has 1/7 shape with some good depth. Changeup shows sink and will get GB outs. EJ is a skilled 2-way prospect who will make an impact in a variety of ways.

07/05/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) EJ is an athletic and talented 2022 2-way prospect. At 1B, EJ has efficient footwork off the bag and fields the ball in an athletic position. He presents a low/early glove, works around the ball, and has a clean exchange. Continuing to have a work from the ground up mentality will help him when fielding and picking balls out of the dirt. At the plate, EJ starts in a tall stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and keeps a quiet head. He has quick hands and creates whip in the barrel. Continuing to attack the ball with his back hip and staying inside the ball with his hands will create backspin off the barrel. EJ made several adjustments throughout the week and has a great work ethic. He will improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) EJ is a coachable 1B/LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Baseball Factory Winter Classic. In the field, EJ shows efficient footwork and makes the routine play. He throws from over top with loose arm action and keeps his throws accurate to his target. EJ can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a crouched stance and has good rhythm with his hands. He comes through the zone with decent bat speed and works to barrel up the baseball. EJ can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, EJ shows a solid delivery as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with loose arm action as he extends through on his release, finishing square to the plate. EJ's fastball tops out at 58mph and keeps it around the zone. EJ can improve as a pitcher by driving his lower half more towards the plate. With four more years to develop, EJ has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
