06/18/2016 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Eli is a talented 2-way player who has great leadership type qualities. He is vocal and takes charge when he's on the field. Defensively, he has active prep and moves well on the balls of his feet. He is aggressive and comes to get the GB working smoothly from right to left. Transfer is quick with strong/accurate throws across the diamond. As a hitter - Eli shows an athletic/balanced setup with rhythm to load. He keeps his head still and tracks pitches into the zone and off of the barrel. Quick hands whip the barrel on a short/direct path as he connects and drives the ball with pop. The ball jumps off of his barrel when centered (exit velocity = 87 mph). On the mound, Eli maintains fluid rhythm/tempo and has smooth separation, driving downhill toward the plate. He gets strong glove-side lead and repeats his delivery well. FB jumps out of his hand and cracks the mitt toping out at 84 mph while showing some run. Curveball has 11/5 shape with sharp/late break. Changeup has sink as he throws it with FB arm speed helping to create deception. He mixes pitches well and keeps hitters guessing. Footwork and arm are quick on the pickoff - keeping runners close. Eli pounds the zone and attacks hitters. Calhoun has a ton of upside with the versatility to make things happen in a variety of ways on the diamond. He has a solid skill-set that will translate well into the next level.

01/24/2016 - College PREP - Jackson, MS Eli continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time in Jackson. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velo) working to and through contact, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. At SS, he is fundamentally sound, showing fluid / smooth actions. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process, presenting a sure glove. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. On the mound, fastball showed in the high 70 range with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run sink. Eli has potential and is a sure player to follow.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Eli is a coachable player who makes adjustments quickly. With the bat, this RHH has a relaxed/simple setup with good balance. He waits for his pitch and gets loaded on time. Swing is level as he hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it to all parts of the field (showing pop when centered, exit velocity = 84 mph). Getting loaded sooner along with striding more square (will allow for more lower 1/2) will both help to unlock his potential at the plate. At SS, Eli hustles around the GB into a square fielding position. He gathers well and has the ability to throw from multiple arm slots, firing accurately across the diamond. Eli has a projectable frame with upside on the diamond.

12/13/2015 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA Eli is an athletic R/R MIF who has a strong build. Defensively, he is aggressive and comes to get the GB working lightly on his feet. He presents his glove, funnels smoothly and has a quick exchange (turing the DP efficiently). Offensively, he has a balanced setup with rhythm in his hands. He whips the barrel through a level path, connecting with strength and driving the ball on a line. The ball explodes off of his bat when centered as he put up an impress exit velocity of 91 mph. Eli is a well rounded athlete who will make things happen in this his senior year.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
