07/31/2014 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Eli continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.48 runner. He utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movements, flashing range. Hands / feet work well together with defensive grade improving as he attacks ground balls and plays through with body. Throws are accurate but will benefit by continuing to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting grade has improved through a balanced setup. Hands are loose and works through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner and keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower body. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/12/2013 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Eli continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork through the fielding process and displays clean hands. He needs to present glove / hands more out front and increase foot quickness to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. He shows a good 2 strike approach and battles at the plate. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable.

07/01/2013 - College PREP - Charleston, WV Eli will graduate in 2015 and tried out as a SS in Charleston, WV. He showed a controlled approach to the ball and an ability to make routine plays. He has active feet and long, loose arm action. He should be more aggressive with his glove and play through the ball. Playing more long toss will help with Eli's arm strength and accuracy. At the plate, his setup is athletic, crouched and weight is centered. He has a level swing path and makes consistent contact while taking an opposite field approach to the ball. He should keep his hands in a stronger position throughout rotation to allow for a shorter swing and help with his timing.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
