Official Scouting Report

06/10/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Elijah continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.20 runner. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from a ¾ arm slot. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-78mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone with gap-to-gap pop. At 2B, feet are active as he works to square balls up and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft but will benefit by presenting earlier and more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground.

08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Elijah is an athletic 2B/RHP who will graduate in 2019. At the plate is where he shows best through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he uses his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 4 for 7. At 2B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes good first steps in attacking the baseball. Glove action is soft / clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-68 mph with arm side run. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 2 years to further develop, Elijah has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
