11/17/2013 - College PREP - Houston, TX Erik is a young, lean 2B that will graduate in 2016. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.13 60 time. Defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he moves well laterally and works to square balls up, displaying soft / sure hands. He works around and plays through the ball well with his body. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to improve double play feeds / turns. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic / squared approach and he tracks the ball well. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed in working to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel, displays strength in his swing, and makes consistent hard contact, mainly to the pull side. The baseball explodes off the bat when centered. For hitting grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. With 3 years to further develop, Erik has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.
