Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/CPosition Projection

04/12/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Erik is a young 2-way player (3B/C) who has a solid frame (5'6"/130). With the bat, this RHH shows an open stance with good balance. Swing is level to and through the zone as he connects and hits line-drives. At 3B, Erik shows active prep and moves well into a square fielding position. He makes the plays, gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. Behind the dish, he sits in well and tracks the ball into his mitt. He works to get around pitches in the dirt and body up the ball. He gains ground on throws down to 2B, pop times are as low as 2.85. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Lower 1/2 drive
2. Extension through contact
3. Contact points
Infield
1. Lateral footwork
2. Glove presentation
3. Play through ball
Catching
1. Blocking technique
2. Arm strength (long toss)
3. Quicken exchange

07/20/2014 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Erik is a tough kid who works hard and genuinely wants to get better. As an infielder, he works to get around ball and makes the plays but needs to get hands out front more, play through the ball and long toss for arm strength. Behind the plate, Erik showed a clean exchange and gets his glove down/tries to center ball when blocking. He needs to continue to work on receiving, blocking and quickening the throwing process. At the plate Erik has a good setup, quiet approach and tracks the ball well. He can improve by developing rhythm in the load, striding at pitcher and driving lower half through the ball.

04/13/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Erik continues to work hard on his game. At SS, he shows active footwork and moves into an athletic fielding position. He moves well to his glove-side and fields the ball cleanly. Behind the plate, he sits in well and presents a low target. He is aggressive around pitches in the dirt and works to center them. At the plate, this RH hitter shows a balanced setup as he waits for his pitch. He hits against his front side and squares the ball up. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following:

Infield
1. Glove presentation
2. Range
Catching
1. Arm strength
2. Transfer/exchange
Hitting
1. Lower 1/2 drive
2. Swing path

06/27/2013 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Erik is a hard working OF/SS who shows he wants to get better at his game. In the outfield Erik has a long arm action from a high 3/4 release and is consistent with his throws. He uses two hands and catches the ball on his throwing hand side, putting himself in a good position to throw. Erik puts himself in a good fielding position and will continue to improve with work on getting behind the ball and getting a better crow hop. A long-toss program is recommended for arm strength. At shortstop Erik gets in squares up well and gets in front of the ball. Getting in a lower fielding position with his hands more out in front will allow him to field the ball more cleanly. At the plate, Erik lets the ball travel and has a level swing path. Smoothing out his motions and working on a more compact swing will add consistency to his barrel contact. Overall, Erik has a lot of upside as he gets bigger and stronger and by working on the mechanical adjustments mentioned above he could improve quickly.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
