Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

09/27/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Bowie, MD Erik is a projectable 2-way player who has an athletic frame. On the mound, this righty works to a tall balance point and maintains level shoulders. He stays directional toward he dish and repeats well. FB & CB come from a 3/4 arm slot. FB ranges from 58-61 mph and he works the zone. Breaking ball ranges from 44-47 mph with 'slider' like spin. At 3B, Erik has active footwork and hustles to GB's to his right and left. He makes the plays with soft/sure hands and gathers well. With the bat, this RHH has a tall setup with rhythm in his hands. He squares the ball up with it jumping off of his barrel when centered. Thomas has upside with still a lot of time to develop. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Lengthen stride
3. Finish with extension
Defense
1. Work from the ground-up
2. Transfer/exchange
3. Play through ball
Offense
1. Improved balance
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. Level out swing path

05/24/2014 - Little League® Experience Erik is a good quiet player who listens well. Defensively, he has pretty good hands behind the plate, an accurate arm and has a good sense of the game and what to do in certain situations. He needs to square his catching stance a bit more, and drop both knees when blocking. He needs to work on his release to bases as well. At the plate, Erik tracks the ball well and doesn;t swing at pitches out of the zone. He needs to focus on finding more rhythm and timing, shortening his swing to the ball and extending through the contact point.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
