Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - East) Ernest is a SS/RHP prospect who showcased his skills during the Opening Day Classic. In the field, Ernest makes the routine plays and works to make accurate throws to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Ernest field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and works to barrel up the baseball, producing solid line drives. Ernest can create more consistent contact by working through a shorter swing path. On the mound, Ernest gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He keeps his eyes level throughout his motion and finishes with a controlled landing. Ernest's fastball tops out at 61mph. Long tossing can help Ernest build up his arm strength. Overall, Ernest is a developing prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

08/25/2020 - All-In Membership - Keizer (Salem), OR Ernest is an athletic/strong 2-way player (C/SS) who graduates in 2022. Behind the dish, he sits in well and tracks pitches into a soft mitt framing well. He gains ground laterally and works to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of his chest, keeping the ball in front. Throws to 2B are on the bag with pop times at 2.51. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength (long toss). At SS, he has active prep and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He tracks the ball into his mitt, gathers well and stays directional toward 1B. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will help to increase lateral range. With the bat, this RHH shows an open stance with an aggressive approach. He takes a hack, works to engage his lower 1/2 and sprays the ball to all parts of the field. This 2022 grad has a solid skill-set with still time to progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
