02/21/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Keizer (Salem), OR Ervin is a talented SS in the 2024 class. He has a lean and strong athletic frame that is suited for the middle infield. Displays loose smooth actions on the dirt. Has active feet and quick 1st step movements for solid attack angles. Plays low to the ground with advanced pocket feel and soft hands. Moves well around the bag with proper feet and glove placement on his turns. Gets square to his target and has strong release to the base. Working to become more aggressive on balls hit out of his initial fielding zone, will expand his range and put him into an elite fielding category. At the plate, demonstrates line drive power to both sides of the field. Proves to have high strike zone knowledge and barrel feel. Maintains centered balance in all three phases of swing (stance/load/swing). Overall, there is a lot to like about Ervin's skill set. With a couple more years of productive development, and strength and speed training, he has a strong chance to play at a high level.

07/28/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Bernardino, CA Ervin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft / sure and presents out front. He moves well laterally and covers ground in the MIF. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/21/2021 - Baseball Factory Southwest Championships 16U Ervin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is clean and presents out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic, squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

06/14/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Daytona Beach, FL Ervin is a class of 2024 SS/RHP prospect. In the infield, he shows very good footwork that helps him create ample range to make spectacular plays. He fields from a low and athletic stance and does a good job funneling the baseball into his body. He takes care of the baseball and has clean transfers before creating momentum to make accurate throws across. At the plate, he shows lots of fluidity and athleticism in his swing. He does a good job getting through the baseball with his lower , which also helps keep him balanced. His swing is simple and repeatable helping him yield consistent results. On the mound, he once again shows his athleticism in his mechanics. His fastball was up to 73 and worked down in the zone. He throws all pitches from an over the top arm slot. His best pitch is his changeup that has late run. Ervin is a well-rounded prospect that we hope to see again throughout his development.

03/07/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Lawrenceville (Atlanta), GA Ervin is a 2024 SS/RHP. Medium frame athletic build with developing build that stands to significantly improve as he progresses. Primary SS who shows good feet and body control. Athletic fielding position with softness to his hands and has good fluidity through his fielding motion. Clean transfer with a short arm and accuracy on throws across the diamond. Secondary right-handed pitcher clean arm action from a high 3/4 arm slot. Mixes in a 12/6 shaped curveball with good depth and tight spin as well as a straight changeup with some cutting action. Right-handed hitter hits from an upright and square stance. Connected swing with good separation of hands and coil into back hip. Short bat path with hands inside ball. Flat barrel plane through the zone who rotates well to balls on the inner half. Four years of continued growth and development will bode well for his career at the next level.

12/27/2020 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 [HOTEL] Ervin is a lean MIF who has a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Ervin has potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
