08/06/2023 - National Showcase - Seattle, WA Ervin continues to show as a prospect with his baseball abilities on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are outstanding skills as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents more out front. He utilizes foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line carry (84 mph exit velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing, transferring weight from the backside into a firm front.

02/19/2023 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Keizer (Salem), OR Ervin is a 2024 SS / 3B prospect with an athletic frame at 6'0" 170 lbs. In the field, Ervin makes it look easy. He has quick feet and shows off good range, getting himself in a low fielding position. He does a great job of playing through the baseball and gets around it when he needs to. His hands are firm and he displays a quick exchange getting the ball out, exhibiting different arm slots depending on where he throws from on the field. Projects as a SS at the next level with his actions. His arm strength (85 mph) is certainly a plus as well. At the plate, Ervin features an athletic stance with a stride that squares to the pitcher. His rhythm is smooth he does a good job of activating his lower half. He keeps his hands back well and shows off impressive bat speed. He is a leadoff type hitter with an attacking mentality at the plate. He gets good extension on his swing and sprays the ball to all fields with consistent hard contact. Works hard to keep his bat path level to the ball. Improved his exit velocity to 86 mph.

Exclusive College Recruiting Program Ervin is a 2023 SS/3b prospect who combines athleticism with baseball skill sets and projection to make an intriguing college prospect. His RH swing is balanced with bat speed and a natural feel for the barrel. He uses a gap to gap approach with a bat path that shows impact to the pull side of the feel and the strength in his frame and swing to profile to pull side HR power with an advanced hit tool. Defensively, he has a quick first step with fluid footwork and athletic actions showing a natural instinct and feel for the left side of the infield. His baseball skill set will allow him to stick at SS currently and with continued development athletically he can stay there at the college level, but his tools and ability will translate well at 3b or 2b should he have to move off the position. Overall, there is a profile that will provide impact on the offensive side with versatility defensively and a potential to stick at SS.

03/07/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Lawrenceville (Atlanta), GA Ervin is a 2024 SS/RHP. Medium frame athletic build with developing build that stands to significantly improve as he progresses. Primary SS who shows good feet and body control. Athletic fielding position with softness to his hands and has good fluidity through his fielding motion. Clean transfer with a short arm and accuracy on throws across the diamond. Secondary right-handed pitcher clean arm action from a high 3/4 arm slot. Mixes in a 12/6 shaped curveball with good depth and tight spin as well as a straight changeup with some cutting action. Right-handed hitter hits from an upright and square stance. Connected swing with good separation of hands and coil into back hip. Short bat path with hands inside ball. Flat barrel plane through the zone who rotates well to balls on the inner half. Four years of continued growth and development will bode well for his career at the next level.

12/27/2020 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 [HOTEL] Ervin is a lean MIF who has a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Ervin has potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
