01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Esai continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he has a promising future on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. At the plate, power potential has improved, now showing well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Hands are clean and present well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. He moves well laterally with range improving as he improves quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 67-68 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/12/2017 - College PREP - Midland, TX Esai is a young 3B prospect who will graduate in 2021. In the field, Esai shows active footwork and centers ground balls in the middle of his body. He gets into a low position and fields the ball in front of his body with soft hands. He has a quick exchange on his throws and gets good carry through his target. Esai can improve defensively by loosening his throwing motion. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He has a fluid rhythm in the box and maintains center balance throughout his swing. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact and line drives. Esai can improve as a hitter by working a load into his swing. With four more years to develop, Esai has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
