12/27/2020 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Ethan continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times showed in the 2.20 range with accuracy / carry (82 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the ball quicker. He is a vocal leader behind the dish and plays with a lot of energy. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick (81 mph velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing and shows a feel for the barrel. At the event, he was 5 for 9. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and has great knowledge of the game.

11/15/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Germantown (Memphis), TN Ethan is a C prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Ethan shows quick footwork and covers up well when blocking. He receives with soft hands and has a clean exchange. He gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate, on-line throws to the 2B bag. Gaining more ground when throwing can help Ethan generate more arm velocity. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and is smooth to load. He gets good separation and drives the ball to all fields. Ethan can barrel up more baseballs by working through a shorter, more level swing path. Overall, Ethan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

08/02/2020 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.19 with accuracy on his throws. 12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ethan is a high energy catching prospect that commands the field from behind the plate. When blocking, Ethan anticipates the ball in the dirt, he leads with his glove, and controls the ball with his body. When receiving, he presents a low target but he needs to continue to find a balanced stance and work behind the ball. When throwing, looses power by replacing his feet. He needs to continue to create momentum with his lower half and have a clean exchange. At the plate, Ethan starts in a crouched stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and he looks to make hard contact to all fields. He needs to continue to attacks the inside part of the ball and create backside drive with his lower half. Ethan is a competitor and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/25/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.36 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He shows a squared setup and receives the ball well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to get his body down sooner. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive path with power showing only to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

05/26/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Murfreesboro (Nashville), TN Ethan is a C prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Ethan shows efficient footwork and is agile moving to block. He receives with a firm glove and makes a clean exchange, keeping his throws accurate to the 2B bag. Sitting in a square stance to the pitcher can help Ethan improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and works to barrel up the baseball, leading to solid contact. Ethan can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. With two more years to develop, Ethan has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

11/08/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Ethan is an athletic and talented 2021 catching prospect that made several adjustments on the weekend. Behind the dish, Ethan has a balanced primary, presents a low target, and tries to work behind the ball. He needs to continue to lead with his glove and control balls in the dirt with his chest. He has a clean exchange, an east release, and creates momentum in his lower half when throwing to the bases. He needs to continue to have an athletic secondary and work on hip mobility in order to have quicker reactions to block/throw. At the plate, Ethan starts in an open stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and stays balanced through contact. He creates rotation to the ball in his back hip, stays in his legs, and hits the ball to all fields. He needs to continue to recognize pitches in the zone and create backside rotation in his lower half. Following a long toss program and working on game like throws in his throwing program will increase arm strength going into the spring season. Ethan will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
