Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Ethan is a slim and athletic 2019 2-way prospect. On defense, Ethan is on time with his pre pitch movement and has a quick first step to the ball. He plays through the ball and gets into a strong throwing position. He has a clean exchange and quick release after he fields the ball. At the plate, Ethan starts in a closed stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and looks to do damage early in counts. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and use his lower half more consistently. On the bump Ethan has good mound presence, works downhill, and works down in the zone. He has good command of his breaking ball but needs continue to ride his back leg toward the plate. Ethan will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

04/07/2019 - Accelerated College PREP - Billings, MT Ethan is an athletic RHP/OF prospect who will graduate in 2019. On the mound, Ethan gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Ethan shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 62-63mph with 12-6 break. Changeup sits from 63-67mph. Extending through his release can help Ethan improve as a pitcher. In the field, Ethan shows efficient footwork and attacks the ball aggressively. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. Ethan can improve defensively by making a quicker exchange to throw. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to solid contact and line drives. Getting into his load sooner can help Ethan improve as a hitter. Overall, Ethan is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
