09/22/2019 - College PREP - Lynnwood (Seattle), WA Ethan is a LHP/OF prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Ethan works with a clean arm and extends through his release. He keeps his eyes on target and finishes square to the plate. Ethan shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 71mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 58-61mph with 1-7 break. Changeup sits from 58-62mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Striding square towards the plate can help Ethan improve as a pitcher. In the field, Ethan shows efficient footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He fields the ball out in front of his body and makes a clean exchange. He gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. Ethan can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact to all fields. Working a smoother load into his swing can help Ethan improve as a hitter. Overall, Ethan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 69-73 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve his foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 1 for 3. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
