01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 69-73 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve his foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 1 for 3. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

09/30/2018 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Ethan is a LHP/OF prospect who will graduate in 2021. On the mound, Ethan keeps his eyes on target and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through on his release, finishing square to the plate. Ethan shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 72mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 60-63mph with 1-7 break. Changeup sits from 67-68mph with cutting action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Ethan can improve as a pitcher by staying inline towards the plate. In the field, Ethan shows efficient footwork and is aggressive attacking the ball. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front. He makes a clean exchange and works to make accurate throws to his target. Ethan can improve defensively by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting into his load and leads well with his lower half. He works to barrel up the baseball and produces solid line drives. Ethan can improve as a hitter by taking a shorter swing to the ball. Overall, Ethan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
