02/22/2009 - College PREP - Rocky Mount, NC Ethan is a SS with an outstanding, athletic looking body that shows projection as it continues to physically mature. Foot speed is superior as indicated by his 6.58 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in coming to get and playing through ground balls in the infield. Range is a plus as he moves very well laterally. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure in making all the plays. He needs to present his glove more down and out front. Backhand is solid and he is not afraid to use it. Defensive abilities in the middle of the infield are above average. Arm strength is above average displaying life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and carry on throws. At the plate, Clark has average ability with slightly above average power. He has a quiet approach and shows a feel for the barrel to the pull side but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential. Hitting grades will improve quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. Ethan has athletic abilities and will catch the eyes of the college coaches with his defensive play. Stock will rise in a hurry if his hitting comes around.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
