Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Ethan is a tall/slender LHP and 1B who will graduate in 2017. Offensively, he showed some pop to all fields with a good hand load, centered balance and a well incorporated lower 1/2 which generated toque. At 1st base, arm was loose and accurate. His setup and footwork were both pluses, as he worked to balls quickly and effectively to both sides. Also a pitcher, he showed good tempo as he worked with a quick pace, which kept his defense involved. He featured a 3 pitch mix from a high 3/4 arm angle including a high 60's to low 70's fastball, a 2-8 curveball that showed some late break, and a changeup, which was thrown in the high 50's with fastball arm speed and depth. Overall, Ethan has a very good baseball frame, and with continued hard work and maturity, will be a special player.

08/21/2016 - College PREP - Burlington, VT Ethan is a tall, long 2017 LHP/1B prospect. He really shines at first where he can pick it and also shows off his arm to help cut down baserunners. He has firm hands to field, keeping the ball in front to make the play. He has quick feet to get back to the bag on double plays and throws accurately to his target. At the dish, this lefty has a middle approach, taking the ball back where it's pitched and proves to be a tough out. He gets his hands loaded to a power position and gets his front foot down on time to launch through the zone. On the bump, this prospect features a fastball, curveball and changeup from a high 3/4 arm slot with a live arm. He has good rhythm on the mound, keeping hitters off balance and working at his pace. Staying in line to the plate will allow him to command his pitches to both sides of the plate. Ethan is an intriguing prospect we look forward to watching progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
