Exclusive College Recruiting Program Ethan is a compact framed catcher with arm strength and smooth receiving skills presenting a catch and throw premium package with offensive upside. Defensively, he has mobility in his frame to present a low target with ease and fluid soft hands to absorb and redirect the baseball into the zone on fringe strikes with strong wrists to handle velocity. His arm strength is solid average, but with a quick release and footwork he will consistently throw in the 2.0 to sub 2.0 range with his personal best being a 1.84 time. He does pitch and with a low 80 MPH FB peaking at 84 MPH and a mid 70 MPH slider the arm action and athleticism shows reliever profile. Offensively, he has simple RH approach with a small load to be ready to hit and with an aggressive lower half move he creates bat speed to generate mid 80 mph exit velo the bat path is short and geared for a line drive approach with the ability to catch up to velocity and with his simple timing mechanism the ability to handle offspeed. Ethan presents a premium defensive position profile by being able to stick behind the plate and provide potential above average catching skills and with an offensive profile to add length and potential impact to a college lineup.

06/20/2022 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (HS) Ethan is a C/RHP in the 2023 class. Behind the plate, he tracks the ball well, has quiet hands and presents a low target. His exchanges are clean and he gets his front foot down prior to throw actions. Gets the ball in the air and throws the top of the baseball (2.21 pop). On the mound, he operates with a 3-pitch mix. His FB topped at 82 with run. His CB sat 62-9 and his SL ranged from 70-2. He is confident on the mound and scout feel he is a fast arm that gets ahead in counts. At the plate, he can hit to all fields with line drive power. He is routinely on time with the pitch and keeps his eyes quiet for advance pitch recognition. Reach base safely 4 times via BB or hit and had loud contact. Working in the weight room and catch to throw exchanges will elevate his tools and open opportunities for him at the next level.

03/27/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.22 with accuracy / carry (88 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he shows an athletic, crouched setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with gradual break. Slider is harder with tight spin and short break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/30/2022 - All-In Membership - Indianapolis, IN Ethan is an athletic C/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. Behind the dish, Ethan sits in a square stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. His exchange is clean and he works to keep his throws accurate to the 2B bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance with center balance. He is smooth to load and engages his lower half well. He extends through the ball with fast bat speed, driving the ball from gap to gap. On the mound, Ethan keeps his eyes on target and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through his release, finishing with a controlled landing. Ethan operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 81mph. Breaking ball sits from 68-70mph with 9-3 break. Changeup sits from 69-72mph with sinking action. Overall, Ethan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
