07/08/2012 - Select Training at the All-Star Game (Pre HS) Ethan Hicks is a 2016 graduate who plays the outfield and also pitches. In the outfield Ethan has an athletic fielding position and has sure hands. He has active and efficient footwork with playable range. He hustles in the field and shows a lot of athleticism. At the plate Ethan has a balanced and athletic set up. He has a smooth load and a short and squared stride. He uses his lower half well and has average bat speed. He makes consistent hard contact and has a good timing at the plate. On the mound Ethan is very athletic and has a great mound presence. He gets to a good balance point and throws a good sinking fastball with some late arm side run. His curve ball is an 11/5 shape with late action in the zone. Ethan has a tremendous upside and a very bright future ahead of him in the game of baseball.

08/09/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Dublin (Columbus), OH Ethan is a young, OF / RHP with a lean build. Defensively, Ethan has firm hands, he tracks the ball well, and he makes plays. He takes good angles to the ball, he stays behind it well, and he plays through. Ethan has a long arm action, and he throws with average strength and good accuracy to his target. On the mound, Ethan has a good set-up, a long / free arm action, and a controlled balance point. He has on-time separation, he keeps his shoulders level, and he lands in a square position. At the plate, Ethan has a square / athletic set-up, okay balance, and average bat speed. He swings in good rhythm, he gets good extension through the ball, and he makes decent use of his lower 1/2. Ethan can improve his overall abilities if he can work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
