01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, defensive abilities are now outstanding, displaying quick / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / clean and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, hitting / power potential are now well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach and shows a solid leadoff type hitter. On the mound, he displays a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 79-83 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tail. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches and attacks hitters, working to get ahead. He shows good composure and competes on the mound. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

11/05/2017 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Ethan is a stud on the field, showing the ability to dominate both as a position player and a pitcher. He has a huge arm (90mph raw velo) that translates to short and to the mound. He is quick and athletic in the field with smooth actions to work aggressively to the ball and show extended range. His hands are clean to field while he gets rid of the ball quickly on DP turns and makes very strong throws. He is an intimidating presence on the mound with a solid three-pitch mix that he uses effectively to keep hitters off balance. His fastball sits at 83mph with run, his curveball has late 11-5 break and his changeup shows good sink. Staying back to keep his arm in sync will allow him to get to a consistent release point and command his pitches. At the dish, he shows top of the order potential with pop to his pull side to go along with sub-7 speed. His swing is smooth on a direct path to the ball to make hard line drive contact and consistently deliver the barrel to the ball. Ethan is an impressive prospect who has a bright future in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
