07/26/2017 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Ethan continues to show a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, he shows a deceptive delivery, making it tough for hitters to pick the ball up out of his hand. Fastball showed a range of 78-83 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He slows his arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

04/24/2016 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Ethan continues to show progress in his abilities on the mound. He shows deception on the mound through a repeatable / sound delivery. Fastball showed in the upper 70 range with good movement. Breaking ball displays tight spin with 10/4 shape. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with fading action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound.

10/14/2015 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Ethan is a reliable RHP who continues to show well on the mound. He throws from the low 3/4 slot with a quick delivery, making it very deceptive for hitters. He does a nice job of getting to a balance point and staying in-line to his target. Working in 2-off speed pitches to keep the hitters off balance makes him a threat from any pen. In the box, he made adjustments and worked to stay short to the ball, hitting line drives up the middle of the field. Swing is compact and repeatable as he barrels it up consistently. Overall, Ethan is a projectable RHP that will toe the rubber and throw strikes - giving his team a chance every time his number is called.

05/24/2015 - College PREP - Wappinger Falls, NY Ethan only showed on the mound at the event with a promising future on the diamond. Fastball showed a range of 77-83 mph with arm side run through a 3/4 arm slot. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

10/05/2014 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ At Ethan's most recent Baseball Factory outing, he showed improvement with his velo topping out at 76. On the mound, his separation is on time, arm action is loose and free, direction is towards the plate and keeps his eyes on the mitt. He uses his lower 1/2 and glove side to create repeatable motions. Picking up a long toss program and staying balanced will improve his abilities on the bump. At the hot corner, he has good direction working from right to left. He has sure hands that are on time giving an accurate throw. Developing a pre-pitch routine and making sure to keep his elbow up will allow Ethan's abilities at 3B to improve. At the plate, he has a close stance with hands that are activated. He has some balance with a fluid, smooth sense of timing. He gets good extension and has an aggressive approach/swing. Developing a smoother load, working up the middle, and getting his backside through will improve his hitting abilities. With the ability to keep improving, Ethan continues to project himself higher and higher each outing.

08/04/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Ethan is a coachable player who has a good work ethic. On the mound, he maintains good composure as he works at his pace. He has clean actions and throws strikes with all 3 pitches. He has a deceptive delivery as he keeps hitters off balance. FB shows some arm-side run as he keeps it down in the zone. He had couple effective outings and threw strikes during his time in Pirate City. At 3B, he works into a square fielding position and fields the ball cleanly. He gathers well and works in-line toward 1B. With the bat, Ethan tracks the ball into the zone and waits for his pitch. He swings on a level path and drives it on a line. Developing a smoother load will help to increase contact consistency. Ethan asks questions and wants to get better. Only a 2017 grad - he has a lot of time to do just that.

05/18/2014 - National Tryout - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Ethan improved his defensive grade at 3B at the event. Hands are soft and clean as he works to square balls up through a low approach. He needs to present more out front, attack balls more, and increase foot quickness to continue to improve. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly through a clean transfer / exchange. At the plate, he shows a square setup and tracks the ball well. Hands work through a level swing path and he makes consistent contact. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph with arm side run on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch, displaying 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run / sink. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/29/2013 - College PREP - Scranton, PA Ethan continues to show as a 3B/RHP at the event. At 3B, feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls, play through and present hands more out front. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to increase bat speed and barrel accuracy. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loose spin and gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Ethan is an athletic RHP/3B. He has shown improvement at every camp and has lots of potential in the game. On the mound he gets to a good balance point and has a good tempo and mound presence. He has a very good arm action and should project well at the next level. He throws a fastball with good movement and a slider with tight spin. He commands the zone with both pitches and knows how to pitch to both sides of the plate. In the infield he has firm hands, active feet, and an athletic fielding position. He is able to make routine plays and shows good instincts on the hot corner. At the plate he has a good load to start his swing, takes a short stride, and has good balance. He has good timing and has an aggressive approach in his at bats and he is able to find the barrel on a consistent basis.

12/27/2012 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Vero Beach Ethan continues to show a lot of potential on the mound. He shows the ability to work the corners as well as staying low in the zone. His balance point is controlled and he works quick on the mound. He can continue to focus on making sure he finishes his pitches with his backside (tends to drag back leg). His changeup shows good arm side run while keeping fastball arm speed. In the field, Ethan does a good job making plays and fielding in a square position. Fielding further out in front and getting lower in his fielding position will improve defensive grades. Offensively, Ethan shows good contact with his lower half getting through. He finds the barrel and is consistent with his stride. Ethan can improve his hitting by working on his balance keeping it centered as well as a staying athletic through his set up. With High School around the corner, Ethan shows the ability to be a special player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
