Official Scouting Report

04/29/2018 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Ethan continues to improve his baseball abilities and he is a prospect on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves and he continues to increase foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the bump, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his loose, quick arm action to work well to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 67 mph. Fastball showed range of 63-67 mph. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He slows his arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/18/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Ethan continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 64 mph. Fastball showed a range of 63-64 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is makes adjustments and is a great team player.

12/27/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Swarthmore (Philadelphia), PA Ethan is a talented 1B/LHP who will graduate in 2022. In the field, Ethan uses his feet efficiently while moving to field the ball in the center of his body. He gets into a square position and presents his hands out front to field the ball. He has a clean exchange to throw and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, Ethan sets up in a closed stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He leads well with his lower half which leads to decent bat speed and good contact. On the mound, Ethan shows a repeatable delivery and good control of his pitches. He shows a three pitch mix with his four-seam fastball sitting from 59-61mph. Two-seam ranges form 59-61mph with some arm side run. Changeup sits from 50-52mph as he throws with fastball arm speed. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Stay below the ball
2. Control body
3. Play through the ball
Hitting
1. Lossen grip
2. Extend through the zone
3. Square stride to the pitcher

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
