09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Ethan continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times showed in the 2.27 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side.

03/01/2020 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Ethan continues to show as a top prospect as he continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying excellent hitting / power potential through an athletic / closed setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a shorts direct swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.20 with accuracy and carry on his throws. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front and utilizes his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving / blockings skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level.

12/29/2018 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Ethan is a C/3B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Ethan shows efficient footwork and takes good angles when blocking. He sits in a low stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to the 2B bag. Making a quicker exchange can help Ethan improve as a C. At 3B, Ethan shows efficient footwork and centers the ball in the middle of his body. He makes a clean exchange and throws from a 3/4 angle, keeping his throws consistently on-line to his target. Ethan can improve as a 3B by fielding in a lower position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and gap to gap pop. Consistently taking aggressive swings can help Ethan improve as a hitter. Overall, Ethan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

03/04/2018 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Ethan is a strong and athletic 2021 2-way player. At the hot corner, Ethan presents a low/early glove and creates angles to the ball. He funnels the ball and gets into a strong throwing position. At the plate, Ethan starts in a squared stance and stays balanced through contact. He gets the backside through the ball and makes hard contact to all fields. On the bump, Ethan separates on time, drives off the backside, and creates arm side run on his fastball. Ethan will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / clean actions. Hands are clean and present well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds/ turn of the double play. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, hitting /power potential has improved through an open, athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 3 with a HR and 2B. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 62-69 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he works both sides of the plate and works to get ahead of hitters. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a very hard worker.

09/17/2017 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Ethan is a tall, strong 3B who will graduate in 2021. At the plate he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick with rhythm and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through more with his body. Hands are soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. With 4 years to further develop, Ethan has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
