05/14/2017 - College PREP - Poughkeepsie, NY Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.90. At the plate, he improved hitting abilities through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. In the MIF, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are aggressive as he works to square balls up through a low approach but will benefit by play through balls more with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. On the mound, he shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Arm strength has improved as he threw is top velocity to date at 79 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

06/25/2016 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Ethan is an athletic 2-way player (SS/RHP) who worked hard on his skills during his time in Omaha. He has a high baseball IQ and is always thinking one play ahead. In the MIF, he shows smooth/athletic actions and works fluidly from right to left around the GB. He has a quick transfer/release from glove to hand zipping the ball with carry across the diamond. As a hitter - Ethan remains patient with rhythm to load going 3 for 9 with 4 BB. He is aggressive and looks to jump on 1st pitch FB's. On the mound, this RHP throws strikes and attacks hitters. FB shows some arm-side run - 73-74 mph. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with good action. He has sound mechanics and repeats well. Ethan (2019 grad) has a ton of upside with a ton of time to progress and build overall strength.

12/06/2015 - College PREP - Nyack (NYC), NY Ethan is a young prospect (2019 grad) with a bright future. At SS he shows a natural feel for the position and an aggressive approach. He makes plays, has a clean exchange and is comfortable on double play feeds. At the plate he shows quick hands and a direct bat path. There is fluidity to his actions and solid balance throughout leading us to think there is good upside for Ethan as a hitter. On the mound he is a 2-pitch guy with a low 70s fastball and curve that has 11-5 shape. Presently Ethan projects an infielder who can swing the bat and has the ability to give you some innings out of the bullpen. We look forward to seeing his future development.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
