09/22/2019 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show behind the plate for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.34 runner. In the MIF, feet are aggressive as he works to square balls up but needs to play through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present earlier and more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers ground. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.47 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He shows a squared setup and receives the ball well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, but will benefit by getting his glove and body down sooner. At the plate, he shows a tall, open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
