12/19/2020 - Winter Pro Training Experience - Nor Cal (HS - Dec) Ethan is a very talented 2-way player who continues to shine in the 2024 class. In the OF, he had active prep and takes a quick first step. He covers a ton of ground, works behind and through the ball with a quick transfer to throw. Ethan creates momentum through the ball with strong/accurate throws (84 mph arm velo). He continues to shine at the plate, starting with a square/athletic setup. He uses explosive hands allowing the ball to pop off his barrel (85 mph) to all parts of the field. He produces hard/consistent contact showing gap-to-gap power. He also shines on the mound, using a solid three-pitch mix. FB ranges 83-85 with arm side run, CB had sharp break with 2-8 shape, and CH had run with deceptive arm speed. He goes after hitters and pounds the strike zone with all pitches. Ethan has great mental makeup, works hard, hustles, and is a team player. He is a special type of player who is definitely one to keep an eye on over the next few years.

07/21/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Ethan is an athletic and talented 1B/LHP that showed well in Pirate City. At 1B, Ethan shows relaxed actions with active and smooth footwork. He fields the ball square with his hands presented out front. His exchanges are clean and gets rid of the ball with throws that are accurate with carry. At the dish, Ethan sets up square with high and loose hands. He strides square getting his foot down on time firing his lower half through. He gets the barrel on plane with consistent, hard contact showing plus pop to the pull side. On the mound Ethan shows a 2-pitch mix with a FB/CB. He works from the stretch only getting separated on time with a clean arm action. His stride lands controlled as he accelerates and finishes rotation to the plate. Ethan showed maturity in his athleticism on the diamond, with continued work he can become a very good player.

07/05/2019 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Ethan is a stud 1B/RHP that plays at an advanced level. At 1B Ethan showed an athletic ready position with active feet. He shows a + first step to the ball and fields with soft and sure hands with clean exchanges. His throws are accurate with a loose arm action and strong throws. At the plate he has loose hands with an activated load and gets his foot down on time. He fires his lower half through with fast bat speed making consistently hard contact. He creates good hip/shoulder separation with line-drive contact. Ethan shows a 2 pitch mix with a FB/CB. His FB is 72-76 with AS run and a CB that shows flashes of sharp bite. He gathers over the rubber well with on time separation and accelerates through rotation. Ethan has grown so much over the past year and shows great upside on the mound and in the field.

02/10/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Whittier (Los Angeles), CA Ethan is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who plays 1B and LHP. Defensively, Ethan has agile movements to the ball, he has efficient footwork, and he fields in a low/athletic position. He has good pre-pitch actions, fields cleanly, and throws with momentum and accuracy to his target. On the mound, Ethan has good balance, a loose arm circle, and he gets good extension on his pitches. He separates on time, lands with a square direction toward home, and he throws strikes. At the plate, Ethan has a closed stance, he loads well, and stands in well balanced. He swings aggressively, makes hard contact, and gets his lower body through. Ethan can improve already solid skills with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
