Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Evan showed as a RHP/1B at the Preseason All American Rookie event continues to show solid play in his baseball tools. At the plate, power potential has improved through an athletic setup. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. He works to keep hand inside the ball to utilize all fields and displaying gap to gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he works to use his lower half more aggressively. At the event, he was 2 for 6 and showed good instincts on the bases. At 1B, he is fundamentally sound, displaying smooth fluid actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he presents well out front. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph with late life through a low 3/4 arm slot. Breaking ball displays side to side shape with late break. He shows a solid frame and strong mound presence. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hardworking, very coachable type player and could develop into a solid two-way player.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Kirts is a hardworking, coachable player who continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 78 mph. Fastball displays good sink with late life. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loopy break. At 1B, he presents a big target and displays proper footwork around the bag. Hands are clean, but he needs to present glove more out front. At the plate, he shows a quiet setup and tracks the ball well. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side through a line drive approach. Working to get stride foot down sooner will aid in being on time. Power grade will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. With 4 years to further develop, Evan will be a fun player to follow.

06/29/2015 - College PREP - Amelia (Cincinnati), OH Evan is a skilled 2-way player (1B/RHP) who has a tall/projectable frame (6'4"/190). At 1B, he shows active footwork with good lateral range. H moves well around the bag and can picks throws out of the dirt. With the bat, this RHH has a balanced setup with patience as he tracks the ball into the zone. Swing is level as he connects and hits line drives back up the middle of the field. More power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, SL) coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a tall balance point, maintains level shoulders and remains compact throughout his delivery. FB ranges from 72-74 mph while showing slight run. Breaking stuff has similar action with 11/5 shape. Working the stride square and drive his lower 1/2 off the rubber will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. Only a 2018 grad - Evan has skills with a ton of upside.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
