Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

01/03/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Fresno, CA Evan is a solid 1B/LHP with a projectable build in the class of 2022. At 1B, he has active prep footwork and shows his agility by covering ground laterally in the INF. He has great bag awareness and adjusts his feet well. He uses a clean exchange and releases the ball quickly. As a hitter, this lefty starts in a square setup while using an active load. He stays inside the ball using fast hands showing signs of pop (80 mph) while favoring his pull side. This LHP continues to shine on the mound using a three-pitch mix. FB touched 82mph with a high volume of strikes, CB had 11-5 break, and he commanded CH well with good arm speed. He has solid mechanics and a clean arm action from the rubber, while also using his size to his advantage to throw on a downhill plane. Overall, Evan is a solid athlete with a great frame who will make an impact at the next level.

12/09/2018 - College PREP - Thousand Oaks, CA Evan continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power abilities through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing, flashing gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays proper foot work around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through more with his body. Glove is soft / clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to increase foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 67-68 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball is hard, displaying 1/7 shape with gradual break. He throws a slider that resembles his breaking ball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/10/2017 - National Tryout - Fresno, CA Evan continues to work hard and improve his game at 1B/LHP. Defensively at 1B, he takes aggressive cuts/angles as he works into a low fielding position on GB's. He comes up with a clean exchange and will mix arm slots on his throws. Improving lateral footwork will help increase Evan's range and to get to more GB's with his backhand. On the hill, this LHP gathers over the rubber with a 3-pitch mix. He keeps his eyes locked in and delivers from a 3/4 arm slot with a glove tuck. As a hitter, Evan displays a square setup with patience. He takes aggressive hacks through the zone and looks to drive pitches back up through the middle of the field. Using more of his lower 1/2 will create more power in this LHH's swing. Evan is a coachable player and still has time to improve his skills as a 1B/LHP.

07/10/2017 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Evan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and he presents on time and out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 67 mph. Fastball showed a range of 65-67 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late / sharp break and shows as a quality pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 5 years to further develop, Evan has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

12/10/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Thousand Oaks, CA Evan is a 1B/LHP who will graduate in 2022. At 1B, he presents his glove low as he fields Gb's. He moves well to his GS as he makes accurate DP feeds. On the mound, this LHP delivers from a High 3/4 arm slot. He works on a downhill plane as he finishes strong towards home plate. At the plate, Evan tracks the ball well into the zone. He stays balanced at the center of contact with smooth rhythm in his swing. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

2. Soft hands
3. Clean exchange
Pitching

2. More strikes
3. Long toss

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
