Evan continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power abilities through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing, flashing gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays proper foot work around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through more with his body. Glove is soft / clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to increase foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 67-68 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball is hard, displaying 1/7 shape with gradual break. He throws a slider that resembles his breaking ball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.
09/10/2017 - National Tryout - Fresno, CA
Evan continues to work hard and improve his game at 1B/LHP. Defensively at 1B, he takes aggressive cuts/angles as he works into a low fielding position on GB's. He comes up with a clean exchange and will mix arm slots on his throws. Improving lateral footwork will help increase Evan's range and to get to more GB's with his backhand. On the hill, this LHP gathers over the rubber with a 3-pitch mix. He keeps his eyes locked in and delivers from a 3/4 arm slot with a glove tuck. As a hitter, Evan displays a square setup with patience. He takes aggressive hacks through the zone and looks to drive pitches back up through the middle of the field. Using more of his lower 1/2 will create more power in this LHH's swing. Evan is a coachable player and still has time to improve his skills as a 1B/LHP.
