10/26/2016 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Finn showed on the mound and at 3B for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he plays through a low approach. Glove action is soft / clean and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry across the diamond. At the plate, he shows a crouched setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. Hands stay inside the baseball utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Working to get stride foot down sooner to work on time will aid in improving hitting grade. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. He works on a strong downhill plane. Fastball continues to sit in the upper 70's with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He slows his arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Arm action is loose and easy. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in stock on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he shows good aptitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

09/11/2016 - College PREP - La Verne (Los Angeles), CA Finn is a lean, tall RHP who will graduate in 2018. On the bump, this righty throws a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He works through a strong balance point and has smooth overall actions. FB ranges from 77-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Arm speed is maintained on changeup but needs to develop more movement with pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Finn has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
