07/29/2011 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2011 Frankie is a broad two-way player on the mound plus at 3B that will graduate in 2012. Currently, he projects best at 3B for the next level. Feet are active as he squares up ground balls with hands presented out front but needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Hands are soft, clean displays a solid glove action. Throws are accurate through a 3/4 arm slot but must get on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength plus raising velocities. Offensively is where Maldonado shows best through a balanced approach. He has strength in his swing with leverage as the baseball explodes of his bat when centered. Hands are quick, generating bat speed and he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 75-78 mph with breaking ball displaying 11/7 shape with gradual break. He throws strikes with all his pitches, working to contact. Frankie has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he may be more suited for 1B at the next level.
