Official Scouting Report

  • RHPPosition Projection

10/24/2014 - 2014 Under Armour So Cal Classic Upperclass Participant Strong with good growth potential, FB: 83-86mph, good sweeping slider, works downhill

09/08/2013 - National Tryout - Azusa, CA Gabe continues to show well. This big bodied (6'3"/200lbs) 1B who can swing it. At the plate, he displays a solid base and good rhythm, getting back into a loaded position. He lets the ball travel, is short and quick to the ball, and creates hard contact. He will be a run producer thanks to his ability to drive the ball to the gaps. Defensively, he works around the ground ball well and gets into a square fielding position. He is sure handed and has good bag awareness. Gabe should have success over the next couple of years.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Gabe continues to show plus abilities in his game. His power will provide him with a middle of the line-up type spot thanks to his ability to drive in runs. He shows good bat speed and puts the ball in play consistently, using the whole field. At 1B, he is a big target and is hard to miss. He has a good feel, gets around the ground ball and has the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. On the bump, he shows a repeatable delivery and FB in the low 80's. CB is best off speed as he gets out over his front side and snaps off an 11/5 sharp CB. he has good control and works both sides of the plate. Gabe is an athlete who has a solid all-around skill set.

01/27/2013 - College PREP - San Diego, CA Gabe is a solid and athletic 2-way player who pitches and plays 1B. On the hill, Gabe has a long arm action, a controlled balance point, and on-time separation. He has a compact delivery, he mixes his pitches well, and he is in the zone with his pitches. Looser actions and a better finish can help mound effectiveness improve. At 1st base, Gabe has sure hands, fluid feet, and he fields in a square position. He funnels well, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy and carry across the diamond. Fielding further out front and finishing off his throws will help defensive grades improve. Offensively, Gabe has an athletic set-up, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes hard contact, his barrel is direct to the ball, and he has good pop in his bat. More lower 1/2 will only further spike hitting numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
