10/17/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures South Since we last saw Holt in January 2015, he has trimmed two tenths off his 60 yard dash (down from 6.81 to 6.61) and has make significant improvements to his fielding and hitting tools. To only see him workout is to miss the essence of what he can do, he really excels when the game starts where he can apply his speed with excellent natural reactions and an advanced feel for the game. He especially stands out defensively, where he has excellent range to complete plays laterally and on the run coming in. In just one game at this event, he made highlight reel defensive plays both at SS (sliding backhand play in the hole) and at 3B (slow roller play towards the line). He is a truly advanced defender capable of playing anywhere in the infield. At the plate, he hits from an open stance and loads his hands more than he preps the barrel. He tends to hit off his back foot, setting up an path to contact from underneath the ball, but he has quick hands and good enough hand-eye coordination to make it work against live pitching. Overall, a "baseball player" with advanced fielding ability and a usable hit tool. You need to see him play in order to fully appreciate what he can do.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Gabe is a sophomore L/R shortstop with consistent ability and athleticism - 6.81 sixty. Offensively, he hit to all fields with a quiet head and middle approach. He had 4 singles and a walk in his plate appearances, and pressured the defense getting down the line aggressively. With the glove, he prepped his feet and moved quickly around the ball to come get with a soft glove. He threw from different arm slots with accuracy and was clean with his arm stroke for carry. In all - Gabe is a talented young player that has 2.5 years left to add strength for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
