04/29/2012 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Gabe continues to show well both behind the plate and in the OF in Rochester, NY. Behind the plate, Gabe has quick / fluid feet, soft hands, and agile movements. He has a solid base, he catches athletically, and he covers ground well. Gabe has a quick arm action and throws with accuracy and excellent life to 2nd base. In the OF, Gabe has a good approach, soft hands, and he moves to the ball well. He has a quick exchange and a strong, accurate arm to his target. Offensively, Gabe has good overall hitting mechanics, fast bat speed, and he makes hard / square contact. His hands work well, he tracks the ball well, and he uses his lower 1/2.

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Gabe showed solid improvements offensively and defensively at the UA Preseason All-America. At the plate, he improved both his hitting and power grades from 48 to 55 and 45 to 50 respectively. He is an aggressive hitter with good bat speed and strength in his swing. Gabe has a balanced, repeatable swing, he can work the ball to all fields, and he has pop in his bat. Behind the plate, Gabe has quick feet, sure hands, and he blocks and receives well. He takes good angles when blocking, has athletic actions, and gains ground well. Gabe has a clean exchange, quick arm action, and throws with good carry and accuracy to his target. Gabe lowered his pop times from 2 - 2.18 to 1.91 - 2.08 at the event. The 1.91 pop time was a top 10 pop time at the event and Gabe was 1 of only 2 sophomores to receive that recognition. He also rated out as one of the top 10 sophomores at the event, receiving "honorable mention" honors from our scouting staff as a stand out player. Gabe is a solid player with a bright future in the game, and he continues to impress our scouts each time we see him.

06/18/2010 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (FL) - 2010 Levanti continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.32 runner. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in working in line with his target through a solid transfer / exchange. Pop times were consistent with what we have seen in the past (2.0 to 2.2 range), and above average for a player his age. Receiving and blocking skills are quality tools that will play at the next level. In the OF, Gabe gets the job done but is more suited as a catcher for the next level. Offensively, he battles at the plate as he will put the ball in play. Power numbers will increase as he develops more overall body strength. Levanti has a quality mental makeup as he plays hard and is willing to make adjustments to better himself. He is a leader on the field.

11/15/2009 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Gabe continues to show steady improvement with his baseball abilities. He improved his pop times as well as his 60-time. Behind the plate, demonstrated quick release with carry on throws to 2B. Accuracy will improve as he generates better direction towards target. Showed a good idea on how to receive a ball. Showed nice low target as he worked around ball to stick pitches. Had some sway as he received pitch. Quick feet allowed him to move quickly to center and block pitches. Needs to tuck chin while blocking to avoid injury. In the OF, had good athletic actions with quick feet allowed him show above-average range. Fielded ball on proper side and throws had some carry. Stringent long toss program will help improve velocity. At the plate, showed quick direct hands to hitting zone that helped produce above-average bat speed. Level path thru zone allowed him to extend thru ball. At times, he would reach for ball which made him dive at it and lose lower half. Had good pull-side power. Has good potential with the right coaching.

09/09/2009 - Under Armour Fall Classic - 2009 Levanti showed much improved receiving and blocking skills behind the plate. His hands were soft and he moved well laterally, now has above average defensive abilities. He showed arm strength and good life in his arm action, but needs to work to get more on top of his throws in order to create better backspin and accuracy. At the plate, he showed good strike zone knowledge along with the ability to deliver the barrel to contact consistently. More of a line drive type hitter at present, though he does have potential for gap power as he gets stronger. Overall, a talented and capable young catching prospect.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
