06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South This incredibly talented outfield prospect is an absolute joy to watch. There is nothing on the field he can't do. Gabriel has a bona fide cannon for an arm (raw velo = 95 mph) from the outfield and makes base runners think before testing him. He impresses as a fielder also, with good range and good routes to the ball. He has a real natural feel for hitting with quick hands to use all fields and pop to hit for some power. His excellent bat speed and direct path make him a dangerous hitter in any lineup. With his tools and upside, Gabriel will continue to shine and make an immediate impact at the next level.

09/19/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures East Rodriguez is among the most talented two-way players in the 2017 class, with left-handed raw power leading the way as a player and a low 90s fastball on the mound. At the plate, he made an aggressive move with bat speed and strength, along with natural lift to get the ball in the air. He gets a little disconnected a times and loses the barrel away from him, but is still able to drive the ball. As he learns to better direct his speed and strength he stands to inflict some serious damage. He showed standout arm strength from the outfield despite a somewhat slow release, and seems well suited to a RF profile. On the mound he generated downward plane from a high three quarters arm angle, and threw his fastball 86-90 with a top bolt of 91. He spun a breaking ball than flashed plus up to 78 mph, and backed off on a change around 80 from a slightly lower arm slot. He has some landing and direction issues that can be cleaned up, with the result most likely being a higher volume of fastball strikes and more consistent secondary stuff. Overall, an extremely talented player with high upside.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
