08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Gabriel is a lean 1B/LHP that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean as he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls and play through while presenting hands more out front. At the plate, Rodriguez shows an athletic setup with balance / rhythm. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 69-72 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with slight break. Control is a solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Gabriel has abilities and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
